Join us at Inkling on Friday, February 1st from 6 to 10pm for Andrea Everman’s opening reception. The gallery will showcase geometric papercuts in a delicate instillation with playful collages of snakes, moths and spiders.
About the artist and her work:
Superficially the things I make seem to have nothing to do with each other— but I can now see one of my biggest interests is the line work found in nature. The geometric details of scales, wing segments, crystals and growth rings are are some of the most enjoyable for me to draw.
Andrea Everman often wishes she was sewing her own clothes or watching episodes of Sherlock, but her actual employment is pretty neat. She works as a freelance designer for Redmoon Theater. Her main focus is shadow puppetry but she also builds miniatures and dioramas. When she is not freelancing, Andrea operates Owly Shadow Puppets; a little company that sells her puppet toys and home wares. All of the items are produced in her studio where she manufactures parts with a lasercutter and screen prints her packaging by hand.

Ranging from the quirky and playful to the surreal and somber, Cindy Tomczyk’s illustration employs a diversity of expression while maintaining a distinctly singular voice. The diversity found in Cindy’s work results, in part, from her love of travel and exploration. Her innate sense of adventure in both her personal and artistic life inspires her artwork from Eastern European to the Pac
ific Coast.

Cindy is a native Chicagoan and currently resides in the San Francisco Bay area. She actively pursues her illustration and design career full time including running a stationery company called Paper Parasol Press. Her line of letterpress printed cards can be found in metropolitan boutiques in the United States and Canada. As an artist, she feels it’s favorable having strong connections in two of her favorite cities, both with their distinct character.

Orange Beautiful and Craftbelly love to collaborate. Shortly after Lizzie started working for Emily in the summer of 2011, the two realized how well their creations went together and how fun it was to create completely unique products for their customers. This show features a brand new line of rap prints by Orange Beautiful, paired with equally “gangsta” frames by Craftbelly.
CRAFTBELLY
Lizzie Greco of Craftbelly creates one of a kind picture frames and mirrors by wrapping unfinished wood frames with handmade paper from around the world. She is constantly inspired by the intricate and striking patterns on the papers that are created by the artists who print them all by hand. Handmade in Chicago, these frames add personality to your favorite photo or print—and the frame becomes part of the art!
ORANGE BEAUTIFUL
Emily Martin of Orange Beautiful loves all things paper. For the last seven years she has been creating beautiful stationery products including custom letterpress wedding invitations, business branding, and her very own lines of cards, prints and journals. Two years ago she opened a new studio + shop in Ravenswood where she now sells her own products as well as the work of other local and independent designers.
