Broadway, Chicago Inkling is pleased to present to you our next gallery showcase, a series of whimsical ‘hunting trophies’ by local artist Ben Rumback. The ‘trophies’ are hand cut and sanded from 1/4 inch birch and lovingly hand painted. All of the trophies come mounted on plaques that were also hand made by Ben. Many of the plaques have been wrapped in gold or silver leaf, and some are painted. The trophies are light and hang easily on a nail, and range in size from the very small (mouse) to the moderately large (a very fierce dinosaur). These illustrative sculptures are fit to adorn the walls of any brave hunter, be they children or grown folks with an appreciation for whimsy. A select few from the previous collection ‘Embroidustrations from a Wild Imagination’ will also be on display. We happily present to you The Little Friends of Printmaking, Inkling’s July gallery showcase. Join us for First Fridays, opening reception on July 6th, 6 to 10 at Inkling, 2917 1/2 N. Broadway St., Chicago. You can easily spot The Little Friends of Printmaking in a crowd—their inky hands and clothes are a dead giveaway. Their artwork is just as distinctive. Husband-and-wife team JW & Melissa Buchanan first made a name for themselves by designing and printing silkscreened concert posters, but soon branched out into further fields, designing fancy junk for whoever would pay them money. In addition to their work as illustrators and designers, these art-school refugees continue their fine art pursuits through exhibitions, lectures, and artists’ residencies throughout North America, spreading the gospel of silkscreen to anyone inclined to listen. Their awards include honors from the Art Directors’ Club, American Illustration, and Communication Arts. Also, their work has been published in the books New Masters of Poster Design [Rockport], Juxtapoz: Poster Art [Gingko Press], and Handmade Nation [Princeton Architectural Press], among others.
