Mexico City
My birthday is April 1st, no joke, and for this year I wanted to do something a little different. It only makes sense that I go to Mexico. When Cindy of Paper Parasol Press mentioned she wanted to go back, I couldn’t resist saying yes. I’ve always held a deep appreciation for the Mexican culture. From the artwork to the food, I wanted to experience it all. It was everything I hoped for and more, I couldn’t get enough of the sights and sounds. I was in awe of all the printmakers I met at the markets. The ever-charming form of printing, Risograph, was the feature of Macolen. I almost couldn’t take it, the place was filled with hundreds of illustrations and my eyes didn’t know where to go. I had to focus, I did not expect this many prints. Questions went through my head, “how do I get these home, how many, which ones…” Lucky the guys there were patient and I picked up several designs . We stayed in the Colonia Roma area, walking distance to just about anything we wanted, mainly tacos and beer. The Airbnb we stayed at couldn’t have been more perfect, down to the fresh flowers left by our hosts. I’ll definitely be back, I have been day dreaming about since leaving.
